UP - Day 2
Fun times in Cable!! I woke up first and decided to get in the shower right away so I could get that done. When I got done, everyone else was up and getting coffee. Spent the morning looking out the beautiful picture window admitting the leaves and the birds and just having fun conversation. Eileen made us a lovely quiche for breakfast along with oven fried potatoes, and toast with three kinds of home made jelly.
We hit the road around 10 am. Took state highway M west. It was a lovely drive and we started seeing fall colors. We decided to have our picnic lunch at the Lake Gogebic State Park. It is good to start eating our food and depleting what we have to carry!
We took a 3 mile hike in the park that was across the highway. It was quite lovely with filtered light coming through the trees but in places it was quite rocky and there were lots of tree roots to trip on. Every one tripped a t least once but fortunately no fell.
After that stop we still have 3.5 hours to drive to get to Munising, MI. It was a beautiful drive, we drove through Marquette.and then the rest of the way was along the shore of Lake Superior.
We finally arrived at our AirBnB around 7:30 pm. (We lost an hour since we transitioned from Central to Eastern time). Our apartment is on the second floor of a building downtown. It is above Whiskey Dicks. I was surprised to find the door on the street open. We discovered that the door was not lockable. But we walked up the steep steps to discover there were several apartments up there. Another woman was walking down the steps as we were walking up. She said, be careful, the stairs are steep. Our apartment “B” was right at the top of the stairs. It is actually an ok place. Nice space and the bedrooms have neat side tables that allow you to plug in all your devices.
We left some of our stuff at the apartment and headed to go out to dinner at Tracys. Clay found it online and said it looked to be a good place. When we got there the sign outside said “Roam Inn” but when we got in, we realized Tracys was the restaurant within the Roam Inn. It was actually kind of fancy and high brow. But we were ready for food! I have a lovely Gruner wine like we had in Austria. For dinner, Jean and I split the Potato Chip white fish with whipped Yukon gold potatoes, asparagus with roasted red pepper buerre blanc [brown butter]. And we had dessert of crème brûlée. It was amazingly good!
We were all exhausted so we made the 3 minute drive home, took our bags out for the top of the car top carried and trudged up the stairs. It didn’t take long for us to all hit the sack.
