Going Home
JAMES: Got up early, got packed. John made a run to the bakery and brought back the house. Had a little fruit, coffee, cinnamon roll (still warm) and even leftover chicken. Perfect. Went to the airport with the Harmons (John and Christine had a later flight), caught our Tropic Air flight to Belize City, ate a lunch (stuffed jacks, very good) and hopped on our flight to Miami. Going through customs was worse than Hell. A lot of people near freaking out, including me. 'Nuff said. Hearing and reading about weather horror stories back home. Will it never end? We leave the Harmons in Miami and head for home.
Conclusion
Would I vacation on Ambergris Caye again? Absolutely! I would dive every day if the time and money allowed it. There are endless dive sites on the reef and they're only minutes away by boat. The people are friendly and patient with dumb tourist questions, the food is terrific and the weather is nearly perfect. It was 82 degrees every day and the only rain we had was a brief shower the morning we left, a "dust killer" as the locals say. There is certainly a lot to explore on the mainland as well. I'm ready to go back today.
Here's a couple more of my favorite shots. Thanks for reading... if you got this far.
Practicing the Howler Monkey call
FYI - A chicken drop is where they put numbered squares on the floor and whichever number a chicken poops on wins.
Clay sporting the "wrist band" from the unbelievable bottle of Guatemalan rum that we polished off over the course of the week. It was amazingly smooth and tasty. It was Ron Zacapa Sistema Solera 23. He earned it.
