Argentina: Day 13
Our last day in Argentina. Our flight doesn't leave until 10:05 PM so we had some time to do a few things this morning. We decided we needed to see the Evita museum which was closed yesterday so we made sure we were there waiting for the doors to open at 11 am.

I really didn't know that much about her (I never saw the movie.) But she was truly legendary and was one of the principal people responsible for getting the right to vote for the women in Argentina in the 1950s.
In addition, she was an advocate for the poor -- in Argentina at that time called the shirtless ones. The building that is now her museum - she purchased in the 1940s and was a home for indigent women and their children to live in order to help them get on their feet.
Before marrying Juan Peron, who was a powerful Colonel in the army, she was an actress. She was loved by the poor but quite hated by the elite class. In the museum they had film from her funeral and millions of people were in the square to memorialize her. She died at the age of 33 ovarian cancer. At the time Juan Peron was President but shortly after that he was overthrown and exiled to Spain. Her body was transferred to Spain and she was buried under another name. In the 1970s the body was returned to Argentina and buried in Recoleta Cemetary. They discovered the body had been horribly damaged and mutilated. It is an incredibly sad story.
Nicola came over to our apartment after her class and we all went to lunch at a place called Green Eats, an organic food place. After that we went back to the apartment to pack up and wait for Luis, the owner of the apartment. He gave us a ride to the airport. That all went fine and now we are sitting in the airport waiting to board.

All in all, it was a wonderful trip. It was so great to see both of my girls and spend time with them. Argentina was amazing, and we met so many wonderful people along the way. It is always fascinating to experience another culture and be reminded of how much we all have in common.
