Argentina: Day 10
Today Katie's flight was scheduled to leave at 8:30 pm so we spent the day exploring more of Buenos Aires. Jim hadn't seen some of the things Katie and I had so we took him to see la Flor and then visited the Buenos Aires fine arts museum. The only issue I had with it was all the explanations are in Spanish and since I don't speak the language it is pretty difficult to try and understand what I am looking at.
It is pretty striking as you walk around the city to see people sleeping on the streets. Often they are sleeping on cardboard and have a blanket over them. It is often a couple. In addition, you see mothers with one or two children and a dog sitting with a cup asking for money.
We have a little parrilla (grilll / steak house) right next door to our apartment. We got some grilled chicken, bread, cheese and baked goods from the local panaderia (bakery).
Jim had heard about an interesting performance that was happening near Recoleta Cemetary so we decided to check it out. We walked over to the box office and bought tickets for the 7 pm performance. The name of the group was called: Fuerza Bruta. I have to say it in really hard to describe. There were about 200 people in the audience and you stood the entire time. When we first walked in it was all dark but we could see a stage. When it started there was a bright light behind the performer so he was silhouetted. He was playing a drum and then you realized there were four other drummers on stage as well. It was incredibly high energy, they were playing with all their might! Then all of a sudden over head five people came flying to the center. They were suspended and being moved over the crowd looking helpless. Soon after that you realized there was something going on behind us. There was a platform moving into the center of the area and we were being pushed aside to get out of the way. You see a man silhouetted, walking; there is a music change and he is in bright light, all in white and he starts running full force...he is on a treadmill on the platform. Things changed so much and so often, I can't describe everything but Jim did shoot some video. The clip below is the part when they suspended a swimming pool of sorts over our heads and women swam above our heads. At one point they lower the pool and we could actually touch the bottom of the pool. It was all quite amazing!
After the performance we joined Nicola's roommate Grace and her Dad for dinner at the pizza place across the street from our apartment. It was nice to see them again and for Jim to be able to meet them and to hear about their adventures over the course of the last week.

This is the church next to Recoleta Cemetary that we went by after the performance. It was quite beautiful at night.
