Duna Divers Roatán
After a great night of sleep we made a lovely breakfast of scrambled eggs and fresh fruit. We got to eat on our little patio.
We can’t really see the ocean from our spot, but if you hold the camera up high enough you can.
Jim was scheduled to go diving at 9am with Duna Divers. It is the dive shop at the Igabari hotel and right on the water. We walked down the hill and were at the dive shop early. The water was like glass; a perfect day for diving. We met the dive master Francesca, a Canadian born marine biologist and a Roatán resident for the last eight years.
They left a little at 9 am. I planned to snorkel with them during the second 11 am dive so I walked on the beach and took in some of the sites.
During the 11 am dive it was just Jim and Francesca diving. I was snorkeling above them and had them in my sight during the whole 50 minute dive. the clarity in the water was amazing!
We walked up the steep hill back to our house and our cab was waiting for us. We quickly got out of our suits and into the cab. He drove us back through Coxen Hole and there were two ginormous cruise ships at the pier. It made for a lot of traffic and slow going to the airport. But we made it fine and picked up the car. Instead of driving back through Coxen Hole we decided to take the long way around toward West End. It was more scenic and just before dusk so we saw some of the awesome sunset colors. We had never actually driven to our house yet so we had to find it on our own. I keep saying, it was great we opted to have someone drive us the first day. We would have NEVER been able to find this place otherwise.
The Roatan Oasis was recommended to us for dinner. It is on the main road into West End and has virtually no parking available so you have to park on the busy highway. It is taking your life into your own hands when you walk along the road. But we made it. The place was packed and we were surprised to find our hosts; Guy and Normajean were there. We had a nice chat with them and then got our table.
We had a cocktail that tasted great and our meals were amazing! Jim had the Tuna Poke Bowl and I had the Local Lobster Pasta. It was a lovely, full first day in Roatán.
